The house is in the centre of the Medina, one minutes walk from the sea. It is small, airy and intimate, built on two floors with a roof terrace looking onto the neighbouring minaret. The house has been largely restored and redesigned - whitewashed walls and stairs amplify the already abundant light. The ground floor holds the bedroom, shower room and downstairs living area. The first floor has a large kitchen/dining room, and set off from this, another living area looking into the light well. This room can comfortably accommodate a third guest and a good sofa bed is provided for this purpose. The kitchen is entirely new, easy to use and equipped with a gas hob, good utensils, fridge and washing machine. A small outside patio leads from here up a forty square meter roof terrace from which the sea is audible but not visible. However, just a short walk from the house and the Atlantic fills the horizon.
A cleaner can attend the house as often as you wish. If you would like meals to be sent in, this can also be arranged. It is a perfect environment in which to read, write, ruminate, walk and swim. Beyond the medina walls, ten minutes walk, there are two well provisioned markets with good local produce and one store selling wine and beer. Innumerable cafes serve mint tea, coffee and pastries. (Wine is served in only two or three restaurants). You will hear spoken Arabic, French, Spanish and English in most tourist shops and restaurants.
Asilah is easily accessed by taxi (around 30 euros). The drive takes a little about forty five minutes and a car can be sent if you prefer not to negotiate with the drivers in Tangier. You will be met at the town gate and shown to the house. Thereafter you are left to enjoy the peace and quiet of this idyllic and friendly Moroccan town.
